Christine Ogbonna, Doctor of Physical Therapy at HealthSpark

Christine Ogbonna, DPT

About Christine

I'm a physical therapist with 7 years of experience specializing in general orthopedics rehabilitation. I received my DPT from the University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences and I am passionate about helping patients regain lost function, get stronger after injuries and understanding their bodies to get back to doing what they love. I have a strong background in exercise, collegiate track and field, volleyball and yoga. When I'm not in the clinic, you'll find me hiking, boxing, doing yoga and taking dance classes. As a former collegiate athlete and a PT who has gone through rehabilitation post ACL tear, I understand and try to incorporate tailored treatment plans that align with each patient's lifestyle and goals.

Christine's approach to care

When treating patients, I incorporate a holistic, evidence-based approach that combines manual therapy with specific exercise programs that simulate the activities and movements the patient has difficulty performing. I begin my evaluations by thoroughly listening to each patient's goals and gaining a better understanding of their lifestyle in order to create a personalized plan of care that reduces pain and creates long-term functional improvement. I find it helpful to examine gross body function to specifically identify impairments that are attributing to pain and difficulty with functional movement. I emphasize patient education and active participation, teaching patients to understand their condition and take ownership of their recovery to improve their prognosis. My treatment often includes a combination of hands-on techniques and a thorough examination of biomechanics to provide each patient with appropriate therapeutic exercises to improve their neuromuscular performance. To ensure consistency outside of treatment, a home program with appropriate dosage and instruction is designed, reviewed and provided at the end of the session.

What to expect in your first session

During the initial session, I will start with a comprehensive evaluation where I'll ask about your medical history, current symptoms, and goals for physical therapy. I'll then perform a physical assessment to better understand and your movement patterns, strength, and any limitations. The first session will be approximately 45-60 minutes and includes both hands-on treatment, education about your condition and light exercise to begin improving your symptoms. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows movement, and bring any relevant medical records or imaging reports. By the end of the session, you'll have a clear understanding of your treatment plan and some initial exercises to start your recovery journey.
